The event was organized by Department of Parasitology and Microbiology, FV&AS PMAS-AAUR, in collaboration with FAO-UN Pakistan, PAK AMR Alliance and the National Rural Support Programme (NRSP). The event brought together leading experts, policymakers, faculty, and students to address the growing national challenge of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and to highlight the critical role of veterinarians in its mitigation.

The successful organization of the workshop was made possible through the leadership of Prof. Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman, Vice Chancellor (Patron-in-Chief); Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali Shah, Principal Organizer and Chairman of the Department; the patronage of Prof. Dr. Khalid Saifullah Khan, Pro-VC, and Prof. Dr. Arfan Yousaf, Dean FV&AS; and the dedicated efforts of lead organizers Dr. Aayesha Riaz and Dr. Muhammad Shoaib, along with the entire organizing committee. Special thanks are extended to Vice Chancellor PMAS-AAUR Prof. Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman, for his exceptional support, guidance, and commitment, which was instrumental in the outstanding success of the workshop. The event reaffirmed PMAS-AAUR’s continued dedication to advancing One Health initiatives and strengthening national antimicrobial stewardship efforts.

The technical session started included four high-impact keynote talks on: Combating Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) – Dr. Riasat Wasee Allah AMR Dynamics from One Health Perspective – Dr. Hamid Irshad Role of Veterinarians in AMR Mitigation – Dr. Muhammad Abubakar Control of Antibiotics as Growth Promoters – Dr. Farhan Afzal.

The workshop included a technical session featuring four expert talks on the dynamics of AMR, its impact on the veterinary sector, and strategies for mitigation. Speakers from leading national institutions offered insights into responsible antibiotic use, surveillance, and the future of antimicrobial stewardship in Pakistan.
