Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) has achieved another major milestone by joining the prestigious UN Climate Change Universities Partnership Programme, a flagship initiative of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. The initiative fosters collaboration between universities and the United Nations to address global climate challenges through advanced research, education, and innovation.
Under this international partnership, a group of students from PMAS-AAUR will undertake a supervised research project focusing on climate change impacts, adaptation strategies, and sustainable solutions pertinent to Pakistan and the wider South Asian region. The programme will enable young researchers to directly engage with real-world climate priorities while enhancing their technical, analytical, and policy-oriented research capabilities.
Welcoming to this remarkable development, Vice Chancellor PMAS-AAUR Prof. Dr. Qamar- uz-Zaman expressed pride in the university’s inclusion in this global initiative. He said that our inclusion in the UN Climate Change Universities Partnership Programme marks a significant milestone in advancing our commitment to climate research and sustainability. This collaboration will empower our students and faculty to contribute meaningfully to global climate action while addressing local environmental challenges. PMAS-AAUR remains dedicated to strengthening academic excellence, innovation, and international collaboration for a climate-resilient future.
He further emphasized that the university’s active engagement in international initiatives such as this reflects Pakistan’s growing role in global climate discourse. He reiterated that PMAS-AAUR continues to prioritize applied research and innovation to promote sustainable agriculture, renewable energy adoption, and climate-resilient farming practices in arid and semi-arid regions of the country.
