PMAS-AAUR Sub-Campus Attock Hosts Tree Plantation Drive to Promote Green Environment and Climate Awareness

Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) Sub-Campus Attock organized a large-scale tree plantation campaign on Friday, May 1, 2026, reaffirming the university’s commitment to environmental sustainability, climate resilience, and social responsibility. The event brought together university officials, district administration representatives, environmental authorities, students, faculty members and participants from various government departments and educational institutions.

In his address, Vice Chancellor PMAS-AAUR Prof. Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman stated that tree plantation is one of the most effective and practical measures to combat climate change, reduce environmental pollution, and improve air quality. He said that educational institutions must lead by example in promoting environmental stewardship and creating awareness among youth regarding the protection of natural resources. He further emphasized that Arid University remains committed to supporting national efforts for sustainable development and environmental conservation through research, education, and community outreach initiatives.

Deputy Commissioner Attock Mr. Rao Atif Raza highlighted that tree plantation is the need of the hour in view of increasing temperatures, environmental degradation, and urban expansion. He said that every citizen should play an active role in making Pakistan greener and cleaner by planting and protecting trees. He added that such collaborative campaigns between educational institutions and public departments are essential for ensuring a healthier environment for future generations.

Deputy Director Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Ms. Rabia Nosheen said that climate change and global warming are serious global challenges that require immediate and sustained efforts at every level. She noted that tree plantation not only helps absorb carbon emissions but also preserves biodiversity, reduces soil erosion, and creates a more pleasant and sustainable environment. She encouraged students and young people to become ambassadors of environmental protection in their communities.

The speakers also paid tribute to the hardworking labour force of the country on the occasion of Labour Day, acknowledging their valuable role in national development. They remarked that just as workers build the foundations of society through their dedication and hard work, environmental protection through plantation is equally important for building a prosperous and sustainable future. The combination of Labour Day and tree plantation reflected the shared message of productivity, responsibility, and service to the nation.

Faculty members, students, administrative staff, and guests actively participated in the campaign with great enthusiasm. The event concluded with a collective pledge to continue plantation activities and adopt environmentally responsible practices in daily life.

At the end of the ceremony, the university administration expressed sincere gratitude to the district administration, Environmental Protection Agency, local government departments, participating schools, teachers, students, and all collaborating institutions for their valuable support and enthusiastic participation in making the tree plantation campaign a success.
