Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) on Tuesday observed the World Rabies Day based on the theme “Let’s Work Together to eliminate Rabies” by arranging a seminar and a walk, with an aim to create awareness among people about human and animal rabies and to emphasize on its prevention techniques.
The day began with an anti-rabies awareness walk led by PMAS-AAUR, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Rai Niaz Ahmad, was organized by the Department of Clinical Sciences of Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (FV&AS), aiming to sensitize the public about the disease and its prevention methods. A large number of teachers and students participated in the walk.
In his address, Prof. Dr. Rai Niaz Ahmad, Vice Chancellor, PMAS-AAUR said that deaths from rabies could be reduced to zero by conducting vaccination programmes, creating awareness regarding the disease among public and by using effective human vaccines available," he added. He further stated that rabies is a fatal disease and there is a dire need of launching a comprehensive campaign to educate the general public in this regard. He appreciated the efforts made by the faculty to organize this public awareness walk against Rabies. He ensured that PMAS-AAUR will continue its efforts to uplift the society through education. Vice Chancellor also said that University will extend the cooperation of its experts to common people for vaccination to eradicate and control of Rabies throughout Pakistan in general and Phothar in particular.
Dean FV&AS, Dr. Safdar Anjum expressed his determination that faculty will take more steps in eradication of this fatal disease and he assured that efforts will be continued to make people more aware against this disease.
Later, addressing the participants Dr. Arfan Yousaf of FV&AS spoke about various aspects of rabies, its prevention and categories of wounds.
