Seminar on "Criminological Sciences in Pakistan: Connecting Research with Practice" held at PMAS-AAUR



Speakers at a seminar stressed to introduce Criminology as a subject in all educational institutes to train a force of young generation to root out the causes of crime and terrorism.   They called upon the concerned government authorities to establish research centers in law enforcement agencies to conduct empirical research and formulate cost-effective crime prevention policies to eradicate crime & criminality.

 

They stated this while addressing at a seminar on “Criminological Sciences in Pakistan: Connecting Research with Practice” held at Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR), on March 18, 2015. On the occasion, Dr M. Shoaib Suddle, Ex IG Police, was the chief guest while Prof. Dr. Rai Niaz Ahmad, Vice Chancellor, PMAS-AAUR was the guest of honor.

 

While addressing, Dr. Shoaib Suddle highlighted the importance of Criminology and said that there is dire need of practicing this subject in all the universities of the country. He further said that research based criminal knowledge must be implemented over the country as it is the need of time in present challenging scenario. Moreover he admired the dedication efforts of the PMAS-AAUR Vice Chancellor for starting the criminology degree at campus. He was of the view that “By learning criminology we can fight criminality more effectively”, and in this modern era policing the study and research in criminology is vitally important for the law enforcement agencies to play a proactive role in crime control.

 

Prof. Dr. Rai Niaz Ahmad, Vice Chancellor, PMAS-AAUR, in his address, said that criminology is emerging field in social sciences right around the world and urged the social scientists to take the leading role to comprehend crime, criminality and criminals.

 

He requested to the teachers and criminal justice experts and professionals to help the nation in controlling and curbing crime and criminality inPakistan. On the occasion, Vice Chancellor also announced to establish a separate department, of criminology and justice studies” to enhance learning capacity, expertise and skills of students.

 

Other speakers included Mr. Masood Khan, EX Director General, National Academy for Prision and Administration (NAPA), Air. Comdr. Khalid Bashir Cheema, Director General, Monitoring Home Department Govt of Punjab, Muhammad Naeem Arshad, Special Judge Central, Shiekh Suleman Ahmad, President Rawalpindi High Court Bar Association,  Dr. Muhammad Tahir, Consultant of NTS also addressed on the occasion. While speaking on the occasion, they elaborated the need of awareness among masses of the country about terrorists activities. They emphasized the need of criminal justice system in a fair way. Putting a light on the justice systems of the country they said that there is a dire need of collaborating efforts between all the departments ensuring peace in the country and emphasized to promote the criminology as a subject in the country.
