This was stated by Prof. Dr. Rai Niaz Ahmad, Vice Chancellor, Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR), while addressing on the launching of a report titled "Indus Basin Road-map for Cross-Border Water Research, Data Sharing, and Policy Co-ordination", organized by Department of Economics & Agricultural Economics in collaboration with Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) on February 28, 2013 at University campus.
He was of the view that there is rapid shift of water use both India & Pakistan going to the process of urbanization and industrialization and Under such circumstances, Agriculture sector is going to be highly vulnerable to such natural complementing issues for the “drop per crop” is significantly reducing. He also talked about comprehensive water distribution arrangements not only between India and Pakistan, but also between the provinces.
He urged the faculty members to divert the focus of their research projects and the research of their graduate students towards emerging issues as discussed in today’s consultation seminar. He emphasized that we have to educate people to take responsibility in efficient water use & management and there is a dire need that young researchers and academicians to initiate research initiatives on water issues and facilitate government in taking correct policy decisions. He also appreciated the efforts of organizers for arranging this consultation seminar with SDPI.
