2nd International Conference On Bringing Philosophy Back In The Academic Track

The two days “2 nd International Conference on bringing Philosophy Back in the Academic Track (ICBPBAT) 2023” concluded at Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR), here on Saturday.

The conference was organized by PMAS-AAUR Faculty of Social Sciences with an aim to explore the ways to bringing philosophy back in the academic track.

About 200 research papers relevant to the different subjects of social science were presented in the international conference. While senior academicians in the subject of Economics, Education, Sociology, Anthropology, humanities and many other multi- disciplinary subjects from the famous universities of the USA, Austria and China as well as from different universities, and federal ministries and provincial departments of Pakistan have addressed the conference.

The Chief Guest of the two days’ conference was Prof. Dr. Samina Malik, Rector, International Islamic University, Islamabad and the Guests of Honor were Prof. Dr. Shahid Siddiqui, Ex- Vice Chancellor, Allama Iqbal Open University, Prof. Dr. Saeed ul Hassan Chishti, Vice-Chancellor, Muslim Youth University, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Naeem, Vice Chancellor PMAS-AAUR and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Zia ul Haq, DG, IRI, International Islamic University, Islamabad.

Guest speakers and subject specific experts, while addressing, pointed out the need and demand of philosophy in the academics. They laid the stress that social scientist must adopt the explanations, methods, empirical arguments, theories, hypotheses, and so forth, that actually occurs in the social science literature, past and present.  A social scientist can play an important role in designing the fate of the society. The fate of the society is lying in the fate of individuals. As a social scientist, we must have to follow the basic ideas, concepts, logic and methods of our philosophy while focusing on how individuals behave within society, explaining how society works, exploring everything from the triggers of economic growth and minimizing the causes of unemployment to what makes people happy.

PMAS-AAUR Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Naeem, while addressing said that academia and philosophy are closely connected to each other. It is the job of intellectuals and thinker to seek the methods to implement philosophies to spread awareness about the nature, sources and social values of knowledge. He hoped that the conference will not only helpful to promote research and developmental activities in social sciences and humanities but also to promote the scientific information interchange between researchers, developers, engineers, students and practitioners working in and around the world.

Overall, the outcomes of the international conference are giving value to philosophy in teaching of various subjects of Social Sciences. using philosophy in teaching practices, practicing philosophies and related theories for gaining deeper understanding and desired results, allowing teachers and thinkers to foreground knowledge in implementing latest and classical trends of the fields, and propagating the core philosophical concepts of good/bad, write/wrong.
