Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) celebrated 78th Independence Day with patriotic fervor and national pride. A flag-hoisting ceremony was held at the university, where Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman, accompanied by Registrar Muhammad Aqeel Sultan, deans, directors, faculty members, administrative staff, and students, raised the national flag. The event commenced with special prayers for the peace, unity, and prosperity of Pakistan.

Addressing the ceremony, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman emphasized the significance of August 14 as a symbol of the nation’s enduring struggle and sacrifices. He said that this day is not just a celebration of independence, it is a tribute to the resilience and unity of our people. It reminds us of our duty to contribute towards the progress and prosperity of our beloved homeland Pakistan.Dr. Zaman paid tribute to Pakistan’s armed forces for their unwavering commitment to national defense and highlighted the importance of honoring the martyrs who laid down their lives for the country.

He also acknowledged the recent successes of national defense operations under the leadership of Field Marshal, Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir, including Operation Banyan Marsus and Marka-e-Haq, affirming the strength and preparedness of Pakistan’s military.As part of the celebrations, a cake-cutting ceremony and a tree plantation drive were held at both the main campus in Rawalpindi and the university's sub- campus in Attock, reinforcing a message of growth, unity, and sustainability. In a special message to the youth, Dr. Zaman underscored the critical role of education in nation- building. He said that a well-educated youth is the foundation of a strong and prosperous Pakistan. He also highlighted PMAS-AAUR’s commitment to academic excellence and innovation, stating that the university is fully equipped with modern educational facilities to meet the evolving needs of students.

The event concluded with a renewed pledge by the university community to uphold the values of independence, serve the nation with dedication, and continue working towards a brighter future for Pakistan.
