A High-Level Policy Dialogue on “Climate Justice & Nature-Based Solutions: From Local Roots to Global Impact” was organized by the Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR), in collaboration with Climate Hub Forum (CHF). The dialogue followed the International Court of Justice’s (ICJ) advisory opinion, which affirmed states’ binding legal obligations to prevent climate harm and uphold intergenerational equity. Participants from global legal, academic, and policy leaders through a hybrid format were attend the dialogue.
Ms. Erum Khan, Founder of CHF and UN NGL Fellow, opened the dialogue, stressing that “Loss & Damage funds must reach those who suffer - not sit in pledges. Climate finance must be debt-free, fair, and accessible.” She announced the formation of a Climate Justice & Regenerative Systems Commission to carry forward outcomes into COP30 and beyond.
Prof. Dr. Rahmatullah Qureshi, Dean of Sciences at PMAS-Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi, highlighted the University’s leadership in climate-resilient agriculture, mangrove restoration, and NbS-aligned curricula. He presented a short video clip illustrating the Faculty of Sciences’ initiatives, which showcased diverse activities including the organization of five international conferences and seminars on climate change, food security, and medicinal plants.
Global and national leaders highlighted that how the ICJ ruling strengthens the case for binding climate action, NbS-led restoration, and Global South leadership. The dialogue produced five strategic outcomes, including Global South leadership in Loss & Damage finance, research-policy integration with PMAS-AAUR, and new youth, institutional, and financing pathways for climate resilience.
