Seminar on Role of Youth in Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism

The Policy Dialogue Forum of PMAS-AAUR organized an insightful seminar on “Role of Youth in Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (CVE)” here on Monday, January 19, 2026. The event drew a large audience, including students, faculty members, deans, and directors. Vice Chancellor PMAS-AAUR Prof. Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman warmly welcomed the distinguished guests and participants. The seminar was graced by Dr. Ahmad Khawar Shahzad, DCO of the Punjab Centre of Excellence on CVE as the Chief Guest. Other notable speakers included Dr. Robina, Director of the National Institute of Psychology Islamabad and Dr. Nimrah Ishfaq, National Expert on De-radicalization.


Addressing the gathering, Dr. Ahmad Khawar Shahzad commended the discipline, enthusiasm, and constructive participation of the students of PMAS-AAUR. He urged students to adopt an entrepreneurial mindset and channel their energies towards building a peaceful and prosperous Pakistan.


In his address, Prof. Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman reaffirmed that Arid University’s students are true ambassadors of peace and harmony. He highlighted the institution’s inclusive and collaborative environment, where faculty and administration regularly engage in strategic discussions to assess ongoing initiatives and plan future developments.


During their presentations, Dr. Robina and Dr. Nimrah Ishfaq shed light on the psychological and social challenges faced by youth in the digital era and proposed strategies to strengthen their mental resilience against extremist narratives.


The event coordinator, Prof. Dr. Ghulam Hussain Babar, emphasized the importance of inclusiveness, optimism, and resilience among the youth. He encouraged students to take pride in Pakistan’s remarkable history and to reject negativity and pessimism. The seminar concluded with an engaging question-and-answer session, reflecting the keen interest of students in contributing to peacebuilding and social harmony.
