Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) observed the International Day for the Prevention of Violent Extremism by organizing an awareness seminar aimed at promoting peace, tolerance, and social harmony. The Vice Chancellor PMAS-AAUR Prof. Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, while the Registrar, Deans, Directors, Principal Officers, Faculty members, and a large number of students were also attended the event.
Addressing the participants, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman emphasized that the university is committed to fostering an academic environment that promotes dialogue, inclusivity, research-based thinking and community engagement. He urged students to channel their potential into constructive and positive pursuits contributing to national development and global peace. He stated that let us reaffirm our collective resolve to stand united against all forms of violent extremism and strive together for peace, resilience and responsible citizenship.
Former Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. Dr. Abdul Saboor highlighted the transformative role of youth in shaping a nation’s destiny. Referring to Quranic teachings and historical precedents, he underscored that nations prosper when their young people embody moral values, discipline, and a sense of responsibility.
Principal Officer Students Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ghulam Hussain Babar stressed that patience, tolerance, and mutual respect form the foundation of social harmony and are essential in countering extremism. He encouraged students to become ambassadors of peace through dialogue, understanding, and coexistence.
The seminar concluded with a collective pledge by all participants to promote peace, positive engagement and resilience among youth as a means to prevent violent extremism in society.
